Cardio Training - BE THE MACHINE!
February 15, 2010

BREATHE:
It is surprising how many people do not breathe properly. In fact, I have found that some people actually hold their breath while using cardio machines. Focus on taking deep, not shallow breaths.

DON'T LEAN:
Posture is important, and even a minor deviation can create inefficiencies in your stride, thus negatively impacting your output. The easiest way to avoid leaning is to not grasp the safety rails on the machine. Use the safety rails to only steady yourself, and then remove your hands.

FOCUS:
Focus on movement efficiency.  Avoid any extra movements not meant to move with the machine. While training, think about your movements and make sure you are moving as efficiently as possible.

FIND YOUR RHYTHM:
Once you are breathing properly, using proper posture, and are moving efficiently, find your stride rhythm. The easiest way to do this is by using music. But if you do not listen to music, you can match the tempo to the timer on the cardio equipment, or even a beat in your head.

PUSH YOURSELF:
Whether it is the last “5 minute push,” or maintaining 1 extra minute at a new level, if you are always pushing yourself, you are ensuring progress. This progress will inevitably result in improved cardiovascular conditioning.

BE THE MACHINE:
If you visualize yourself as a machine, and your primary existence is to run, step, or glide, you will not only train more efficiently, but you will also see better results, faster.
