POOR EATING =
POOR MIDSECTION:
I truly, truly hate to burst everyone's bubble, but no matter how many crunches you do, if you eat poorly, or your eating habits are out-of-control, you will never see the results that you desire. The midsection and abs are the most misunderstood body part in fitness and weight loss. Yet, too many people believe that crunches alone will result in a flatter midsection.
In this instance, we can blame marketing in the fitness industry for this misconception, as the majority of get-fit-quick machines target the abs and midsection. But, the good news is, once you get your diet under control, everything else should fall into place.

FOCUS ON CORE
STRENGTH -
NOT AB STRENGTH:
To tighten the midsection, a full-core training program should be followed. Core work focuses on both the abs and lower back, as this is the part of the body where all movement originates. A stronger core has many benefits than just a sleeker outline. For example, for some of my clients, I have implemented core programs which resulted in the reduction of lower back pain.
Following a core program also has an added benefit of burning more calories. Exercises which target your core in its entirety, like planks, are much more difficult and thus result in more calories burned than just a set of crunches.
