A ntioxidants, B3 (Niacinamide), Vitamin E, and Zinc Oxide are key ingredients to look for in a day or night cream. The most important form of Vitamin E, DL Alpha Tocopherol, has been studied for its ability to inhibit photocarcinogenesis, immunosuppression, DNA damage, wrinkles and skin tumors. This is the most important antioxidant in the skin but is depleted when exposed to UV Light. Vitamin E also protects the upper layers of the skin from sun damage.

Vitamin B3 is an old vitamin which prevents the sun caused injury to the immune system (photoimmunosuppression) and prevents skin cancer caused by the sun. It also reduces acne and is important in many cellular enzymes. B3 is unique in that it is the only topical agent that has been studied to decrease yellowing (sallowness) of the skin. Two-percent B3 improves skin texture by reducing sebum production which results in smoother skin. Five-percent B3 reduces hyperpigmented spots, red blotchiness and improves skin elasticity. Pro-Vitamin B5 works together with B3 to improve the skin's natural barrier. It makes the skin more resilient and less likely to be damaged by harsh soaps and environmental toxins. It calms inflammation and improves skin dryness and roughness, scaling and itching caused by irritants.

Zinc Oxide effectively blocks both UVA and UVB radiation, particularly up to 380nm. Zinc Oxide is an antioxidant that decreases inflammation and it actually enhances wound healing. It is not a chemical and is extremely safe.
